You know what is going to happen here right? They will decide that there were not enough volunteers, so they are going to make everyone who was closing at 6 stay until 8. My heart goes out to you guys, especially because you all know better than corporate that no one will come in after 5:45 Christmas Eve.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I work for walgreens.. we're open regular hours (non 24 hr stores 7 am or 8am open til 10pm or 11pm) but for xmas week we're open til midnight AND that includes xmas eve.. xmas day is one shift (like 9am-6pm usually) and all 24 hr stores are still open, including the pharmacy.. like seriously it's xmas day and instead of spending the day with their families there's always those people that just need their viagra at 3am xmas day. merry effin xmas. and i love those that when i work a holiday go "oh i feel bad for you, must suck workin a holiday" yes biotch i'm working because people like YOU have to come in for last minute shit.

Call me the weirdo, but I always volunteer to work on Christmas Eve. Why? Because I'm single, have no kids, and my parents don't do anything special for Christmas anymore, now that all three of us are grown.

So I figure that since all I'm going to do is go home, curl up in my pj's with my cat, and watch the "A Christmas Story" marathon on TBS like I do every year, the least I can do is give the co workers I know that have young kids a break.

I don't have to worry about being asked to stay over, b/c I'm already working an 8 hour shift, and they're adamant about us NOT picking up extra hours so we can't get overtime. So no worries there. In fact, I'll prolly be one of those "last minute" people, as I pick up something to wear Christmas Day. My dad works 3rd, and has to go in that night, so my mom and I will get out and about to see what, if anything is open.

Last year I worked until 8, I think... This is going to suck if I have to work later than 8 this year. Then again, at the same time, last year was nice for the last 2 hours I worked because there were no customers in the store to mess things up while we associates were trying to straighten things up.

Is nothing sacred anymore?Do retard customers have to be inside a store buying stupid crap they don't need 365 days a year?I vote that corporate jerk-offs including the CEO work christmas eve/day.Or,all prices are doubled AND no returns for the moron customers who can't get a life outside of the mall one day a year.

Pharmacy_psycho

As far as I know, we have regular hours Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year's. I signed up to work Thanksgiving and Christmas because with just my son and me, we don't exactly do anything special. I was also on the injured list this year, so I guess they'll switch me over to Christmas and New Year's unless my MRI shows I did more damage that I'm hoping I didn't do. I'll just have to wait and see what the schedule brings. I'm already down to 2 days a week as it is.

Either way, I have only tortured the retail slaves once with shopping on Christmas Eve (thanks to the ex), and I didn't like it anymore than I'm sure they did. I worked over Thanksgiving and Christmas when I worked for a kennel because of the hefty bonus I could make, and I only had one kid at the time who wasn't going to miss it if I wasn't home Christmas Eve. She was going to be in bed by then anyway. I've never really minded working the holiday since it's not that big a deal to me, but I feel bad for the people who are deeply connected to family and its about the only time they get to see them. I think its really stupid that stores are getting so commercialized that they can't just give their employees a break with the big advent of online shopping and say "hey, let's just give up and say if they haven't gotten it by now, its just not happening".

Anger Mismanagement

This shit makes my blood boil! I'm actually glad I'm unemployed right now, at least I don't have to worry about some fascist manager holding me hostage at work, when I want to spend Christmas Eve with my family. As for those customers and their shitty little remarks (oh you poor thing), I honestly believe they're smirking about it.

Kara

I work at walmart...and because other districts were unable to get volunteers, they didn't even tell our store staff we were staying open...they merely postponed putting the week 47 schedule up until the Christmas Eve schedules were redone for the fix in that day's schedule...that is rotten.

hoss707-

They did the same thing to us... Had people scheduled until 8 on Christmas Eve. Management allowed everyone to think it was a mistake until about a week ago.

They're kinda assed out though. They scheduled everyone at 8:00, but policy states associates cannot be forced to work past our scheduled shift. So what are they going to do, when there is a store full of last minute dickheads at 8:00 and the only associates in the store are cashiers?

Especially since there is nothing management can do...You followed policy and worked your shift.

Ponda

My manager at wall-fart told me that in a few years we will be open everyday all day...including christmas...they are just working up to it...
