Hey Retail Slaves! I'm Freddy, Crypt Keeper of RHU! Retail Hell Underground Blog is for anyone slaving away in a service related position who wants to rant, tell their story, blow off steam, or just have a chuckle about the insanity of working in the 10th Circle of Hell! I'm also the author of Retail Hell, the funny memoir about life as a handbag sales associate at an upscale department store!
At least that place got T-giving off, we were open that day...and we close on Christmas eve at 11:59pm and open on the day after Christmas at 12:01am. So the workers get the exact 24 hours of Christmas day off. Even less than that really, assuming that there'll be dumb customers there after close on Christmas Eve and that the workers will have to arrive before open to set up stuff. Whee.

that looks like the timetable every store at my mall got. I look at it every day and want to cry.

I just found out the other day that my store is one of the lucky stores that gets permanent extended store hours. So after Christmas instead of store hours going back to the norm... our extended hours are going to stay... forever.
*cries*

My grocery store used to be 24/7 except "Manger-Mania" and "Anally-Stuffed Bird Day", and even those days we might be open a while if enough people forgot to sign the "I do not wish to work these holidays" petitions.
Could be worse though... at least we have employees! At my first job we were 24/7 year-round, AND only 3 people other than the boss and his wife to cover all shifts.

Admittedly, I recently ranted this morning that a local store that I needed to get a gift from did not extend hours at all for the holidays. Closed at a very early 6pm and I arrived at 6:10. Argh. (How do they make any money with that kinda hours?)
But I sure as heck would NOT expect them to stay open to freakin' 11pm. That's just crazy!

Spritzy - I work Christmas Day, remember? There are still people in the store... just no customers. 11pm-10am... oh man.
