Oh yes. I hate people who are too stupid to realize that large discount =/= free!
And ones who don't understand that the discount is taken off AT THE END, so STFU and quit tell me I'm wrong.

Also, I worked Christmas Eve last year and got a complaint from a woman who called corporate on me a couple months before, and was outraged that I hadn't been fired afterward.
That was the straw that broke the camel's back in making me officially hate Christmas.
The sentiment of it such a load of shit when there are cruel, thoughtless assholes like the "Professor" you mentioned running around threatening to get people fired on holidays!

When they start screaming about "I'll have your job!" just hand them an application.

?

You're not going to lose your job. If yelling at you to the point of crying didn't satify her enough then she will call. Even if she does call corporate they have to call the store to see their side of the story. People rarely lose their jobs over customers calling, because most complaints are retarded or the customer's fault.

Videogame Geisha

Heh, when you do your job right, there's no way anyone would fire you for doing it. I've had numerous people ask to complain about me to a corporate number for standing by my company policies. I always give it to them so that they can tell my superiors how I did my job right.

She just wanted some reason to be indignant, and she felt stupid because she WAS stupid. When you're angry and unjustified, you look for reasons to justify your anger.

Don't sweat the idiots, hopefully Darwin will collect them in his own way. And kudos for surviving working christmas.

Grendus the Self Check Guy

I had a guy give me the "maybe you just won't have a job tomorrow" line. I think he wanted me to open a register and check him out, but I was already signed onto a register on the opposite side of the store and had been assigned to clean, not run register. Guy asked if I was a cashier, then slowly got madder and madder. He finally asked if D, the store manager, was there. I told him that D usually comes in in the morning, so he asks who was the manager tonight. I told him I didn't know, and his exact response was "well don't you think you should find out?!"

Guy ended up going to talk to my CSS (who I directed him to, I don't have the authority to call an ASM I have to direct them through the CSS on duty) and asking her to call the ASM, then leaving. Entitled people are funny, but kinda scary. Technically I had done nothing wrong, but I figured the guy would make up some assholeish lies and get me in trouble. It happens, 95% of the time nothing comes of it, and 4% of the time they just pretend to fire you unless you really did something wrong.

Yingafred

Yeh. Like I said I never was fired. I think the break-down really resulted the stress of having long-ass lines and other people bitching at me that day, and the "Professor" was the straw that broke the camels back.

done with drama

i'll never forget one poor slave at the helllmart the first christmas it opened in our area. two 'ladies' were in line ahead of me with a cart overfill of stuff and when she had finaly rang and bagged every thing thru, they must not have had enough money. the one just hufed a the cashier and said 'Target is cheaper!' and walked off! i don't know about you, but from where i stand, target is NOT cheaper!

bobo

So many idiots that watch the screen as items ring up and jump on you if they think they didn't get their discount . . . and our store shows the discount IMMEDIATELY under the old price, no waiting around for the final total, no sir, so you have to be pretty fucking eager to jump the gun there! And then I have to point to the discount DIRECTLY under the old price and explain it to them like they're not a bunch of morons!

This:
"She just wanted some reason to be indignant, and she felt stupid because she WAS stupid. When you're angry and unjustified, you look for reasons to justify your anger."

can never be said enough. It is the cause of probably 3/4 of awful customer behavior I've seen.
