OMG.
I can't deal, I seriously need copious amounts of therapy after today. Legit, I am never gonna be the same...I gave myself a headache from dry-heaving so much.
A customer came in and she was COVERED in wounds, infected, puss oozing...WOUNDS.
Guys, I could smell them.
It's didn't look like a skin condition either, like rosascea or eczema (which I have, so I now it wasn't that) or anything else I can think of but like chunks of flesh just open to the air with no bandages on! And they didn't look like she'd taken a fall or something they were all very uniform, just like up and down her arms and one on her neck I almost couldn't serve her I was like, at some point she's gonna give me money and even though her hands looked okay I don't wanna come in contact with her. OMG, and there were so bad, you could tell they were infected and there was one I saw on her elbow that looked like it needed stiches but, it was just open and....oh god.
WHY ARE YOU BUYING A BAGUETTE AND DANISHES WHEN YOU SHOULD CLEARLY BE IN THE HOSPITAL!
And she had the most calm attitude, like as if nothing was. Paid for her stuff and left. I do not get paid enough for this.
Oh God. I am so not alright...

o.O was there a hidden camera somewhere? Seriously it's too bad you couldn't refuse service, especially since she sounds like ground zero for the coming zombie invasion.

Um... wow. Did you at least recommend she see a doctor?

Sounds like you were probably dealing with psoriasis and, if so, are definitely exaggerating about "puss" and "being able to smell them" and, if so, you really need to grow up. Even if it's not psoriasis, it sounds like something a lot like it. As if actually having that skin condition isn't bad enough. My mom has an especially severe form of that, and it's actually a fatal disease when you get some versions of it, so please, do try to lay off. She wasn't mean to you our doing anything except trying to have as normal of a life as possible while you're being Captain Judgmental. My mom barely leaves the house on her own anymore, exactly because of reactions like yours. So, thanks for making that lady feel bad about an incurable genetic illness; I guarantee she noticed your reaction.

Oh, and just to be clear, you can't catch it, and they're not even wounds. Holy crap, would you treat someone in a wheelchair or with cancer this way?

Back to the dungeon with you, troll.
Christ on a bike, even if it isn't a medical condition that isn't contagious, it's generally a bad idea to go into a restaurant covered in weeping sores...that's majorly unsanitary.

Maybe she really likes cutting herself? Maybe she works with... I don't know... sharks or something?
Maybe they were fake/make-up?
Apparently it was nothing serious if she was calm.
Huh, weird shit...

My dad has psoriasis, maybe not as bad as the above commenter. Mainly on his elbows, knuckles, and knees. Sometimes it would look like it cracked or broke and would be bleeding or look semi-pus like. Everyone in the family are used to it, but I have seen strangers give him some oddball looks. (If he is bleeding though, he'll at least do the decent thing and get something to help clean it up.)
Watching him give himself a shot for it in his stomach though, now that's freaky! (No idea what the shot is, but he said it was for his psoriasis. His psoriasis is a very mild case.)

Back to the dungeon with you, troll.
Ironic statement, considering that's practically the sentiment we're sending to the lady with the sores.
That's not to say OP that your own emotions aren't valid. Gruesome things like that are hard to deal with.
However, I hope the lady was okay.
Posted by: Chicajojobe | Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 07:19 AM
That is a bit unnerving, especially if it wasn't a condition she could control; but open oozing sores are a bit much and she might have considered bandaging them. I saw a gentleman where I work once, we ended-up talking because some people were harassing him for his looks; he had some accident or infection that had eaten away portions of his face, neck and shoulders. It wasn't anything that could be covered by a mask or bandages, but these wounds were clean and healed, just..huge. And he was in tears because a FATHER was encouraging his children to tease this man.
Posted by: L | Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 07:41 AM
I know nothing about psoriasis, but what the OP is describing sounds to me like meth sores. People who are long time meth users pick and pick and pick at their skin and create sores like that. And that would be why the custy had no sores on their hands. People jumping down the OP's throat have less idea as to the facts of the case than the OP does.
Good of you to judgmentally rag all over someone else and accuse them of being judgmental. [/sarcasm]

For people with severe psoriasis, they are not "puss-oozing sores." Google it. It's a buildup of skin that just looks like a sore, and bandaging them would just make the buildups more itchy and intolerable. Sure, I'm the troll, because I pointed out the op's ignorance- in a MUCH nicer manner than she treated that poor woman, might I add. By the by, at one point my mom had like 75% coverage of her body. If she bandaged it all, she'd look like a mummy, and not because of any medical need-- no, to make some ignorant person feel better about having to deal with treating her like a human being. Ugh.
Like I said, would you treat any other person suffering from an untreatable condition that way?
Posted by: Fein | Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 08:27 AM
Actually, my mom at her worst didn't have any buildups on her hands, either. And I don't think a meth head would be calmly and casually buying some danish at the local bakery.
Posted by: Fein | Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 08:35 AM
It wasn't cracked skin, it wasn't flaky or dry skin, it wasn't a rash it was large, circular holes, some that weren't scabbed over because I could see the layer of skin still "glistening" like wet I mean...
And no, I wouldn't treat someone with cancer or in a wheel chair like that. Someone that has open wounds yes, I'm sorry you should dress them, because even the ones that were scabbed over were CLEARLY infected and you cannot expect to go out in public like that and not have someone stare at you.
Like I said, I have eczema myself so I know how itchy and painful it can be.

I think generally the rule is to have compassion for people, and to never assume things about them. The most important thing to never assume is that the way someone looks has anything to do with you personally.
Posted by: Hellbound Alleee | Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 09:02 AM
@Fein: For people with severe psoriasis, they are not "puss-oozing sores."
Since what the OP saw /were/ "puss-oozing sores," then clearly what this individual has is /not/ psoriasis - by your own "proof" - so maybe dial back the judgment on the OP just a little.

most people can't help that their skin conditions are nausea inducing. That being said, if you have a condition that bad, you should probably cover the sores when you plan on going into a food service establishment. For sanitary reasons.
Posted by: photoslave | Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 10:21 PM
@Nobody: I was thinking the same thing actually. There are a couple meth heads in my general area so I've run into a few at one store or another and more than a few have had sores just like these.
Self inflected or medical condition, going out with sores like that is just unhygienic and shocking.

Bull the broomstick out of your asses, guys. It sounds like this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necrotizing_fasciitis) to me, or whatever the hell it was that went around the US a few years ago. Either way, she should have covered it. You need to cover that shit. It's common courtesy.
To those of you getting butt hurt about this post, tell me where you work and i'll happily send in a friend with exposed herpes sores. It's just a medical condition and we shouldn't discriminate against them, right? Right?
Posted by: KittyKatzchen | Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 04:51 PM
SARS, that's what it was. Those sores were nasty.
Posted by: KittyKatzchen | Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 04:54 PM
oh we used to have an elderly fellow come in with something like that on his face. He seemed alright, although understandably unfriendly. Never said a word.
I don't doubt what you saw. This fellow... it looked like he had honest blackened craters, and each little crater was filled with yellow fluid. And I know exactly the smell you're talking about.
It was strange and I was hella curious about it, but obviously didn't ask. Just shrugged it off. He was a regular.
The other staff, however, weren't as collected about it and used to spray febreeze everywhere after him. Drama queens.

Yeah, no part of that sounded like psoriasis. I have customers with psoriasis. Actually, when it was first described it made me think of my coworker's healing road rash, except while ugly, it certainly doesn't smell and he keeps the worst parts bandaged.
Posted by: Framer-Fatal | Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 08:43 PM
@Fein - I don't understand why you assume OP was lying about pus and odor, just because psoriasis doesn't generally cause pus and odor? You also seemed to have imagined the part where OP was rude about it to her face. Without sensitization it's nearly impossible to just ignore disfigurements like that, it may not be fair or nice but our instinct to avoid contagious disease is much older than our ability to think rationally or be politically correct.

Because people tend to make up things to sensationalize them more. "Evenly spaced" makes me think they aren't self-inflicted. And how I know she was almost certainly visibly reacting was the "I almost couldn't serve her" part.
Regardless of whether or not is was psoriasis, it was clearly something the woman couldn't help, and if they were up and down her arms and on her neck, once again, she'd be a mummy if she bandaged all of that, and perhaps it was medically advised that she leave it open to the air.
What I'm saying is, acting like that, and overdramatizing it like this on a website, is disgusting in the same way that overdramatizing any OTHER disability is disgusting. "Did you SEE that guy limping around? I NEED THERAPY. I WAS DRY HEAVING FOR HOURS." It's ridiculous. I don't care what this woman's problem was, the summary is, she wasn't a mean person, and none of us have any information about what was wrong and what she had to do to treat it, so I think the OP is still INCREDIBLY wrong for posting such a "UGH WHAT A CAVE TROLL" post about some poor woman she knows nothing about. What if she was you guys' mom or sister or girlfriend or best friend or whatever, just trying to make it through the day and get a snack, and some chick acts like she'd rather walk through fire than take a form of payment. Sure, guys. The OP's cool, I'm the dumb one, you're right. We definitely shouldn't give people the benefit of the doubt and treat them like human beings regardless of their appearance.
Posted by: Fein | Friday, July 27, 2012 at 03:42 PM
Also, I understand that sometimes it's hard to control our first reactions to things, but I doubt "instinct" required OP to come to a website and tell everyone about how HORRIFYING this poor woman was. I know my ancestors sure weren't tippity tapping away on a computer every time some disgusting medical case offended their delicate sensibilities.

Good Lord Fein get over yourself!
This is a place to rant and you can't assume that they are overreacting just because you want to get into an online argument.

Fein: Being a psoriasis sufferer myself for about 15 years and disabled with psoriatic arthritis, I was wondering if you were a member of PHO? If not, come check us out: http://www.psoriasis-help.org.uk/forum/index.php

That doesn't sound like psoriasis at all! I had a friend in high school who used to get pretty bad rashes, especially in the crooks of her elbows and knees. They certainly weren't pretty, but they didn't ooze pus or smell or anything. There are a whole host of other, much nastier medical conditions it could have been. Regardless, open sores should be covered (or at least cleaned) before going into a public place. If you have too many open sores to cover, then perhaps you should consider staying home until they heal up a bit. It's a health and safety issue- open sores spread disease. Sure, it could have been a genetic condition and not have been infectious, but it also could have been something really nasty. I have nothing but sympathy for people with skin conditions like that, but if you really do have open sores 24/7, you are responsible for keeping them sanitary. I wouldn't go out in public if I was covered in open sores anyway, if only because I wouldn't want them getting dirty or infected.

Evenly spaced...circular...infected and stinky...those are probably trackmarks guys. I'm a little surprised that nobody hear called that (although Meth sores is also a good guess). And if I'm right that would also explain WHY she was calm too. And Fein, blow it out your ass!
Reference: My mother looked like the woman she's describing for MOST of my life. My mother was a hardcore junkie and some of the shit she took was cut with God-knows-what and caused pronounced/infected sores. She was my own mother and I felt this kind of revulsion, so imagine strangers felt seeing such a putrid thing! I don't blame you for being icked out. Fein just wanted to charge in like a PC WhiteKnight, I just hope he hops down off his high horse someday.
