From Walmart Whipping Dog:
I work in Walmart on the east coast.
I have been there for almost 5 years. I am humiliated, yelled at in front of customers and treated like a piece of shit. The CSMs (Customer Service Managers) hate me. The associates hate me. The customers hate me.
Last Monday I was working at the service desk and we got busy. The associate on my left was waitng on a customer, as was I. The CSM was working there also. The associate on my left yelled at me in front of all the customers (I'm white, she isn't) and the CSM didn't say anything at all.
The CSM "My mom works here. I can do anything I want." Rolls her eyes, glares at me or totally ignores me. The other CSM are starting to ignore me. If they don't want me there why don't they just fire me. Then they wouldn't have to deal with me. If you are a 'buddy' you get anything you want and can get away with anything you want, but let me do the same things and I'm in the office.
Their open door policy is a joke and they would only turn it around and tell me it's my fault and I was in the wrong.
This is the worst job I've ever had.

sweetie, start looking for work now. Take dishwashing, fast food-anything you can get and leave walmart. I've seen this happen all to often at walmart. Once the CSMs start doing what you say they are doing to you, it's time to move on. Don't feel bad about leaving. At this point they will probably fire you over something stupid like eating a coworkers lunch if you dont leave on your own. My best friend was fired from walmart few years back for supposedly eating everyone's lunches-funny thing is he has severe food allergies and just can't eat random stranger's food. Walmart is it's own special little circle of hell and you have nothing but my sympathy. Start new job search and get out while you can.

I dealt with the same thing while I worked at Wal-mart. I wasn't a cashier, but I did have numbers to help backup cashier. When CSMs learned about it, I would constantly be pulled to help up there, but it would turn into staying up for 95% of my shift. If I needed a bathroom break I literally needed to grab someone because they wouldn't releave me for a few minutes. Lunches and breaks were nightmares because they would put their "people" first. One time I was literally locked out of the system because I was about 5 minutes before clocking out where I would have been in trouble if I clocked out 1 minute late. And there was a huge line of customers.
I have been yelled at while up there because I wasn't as fast, causing me to cry in front of my customers. (I was pregnant at the time and pretty emotional, but still.) And don't even get me started on the assistant managers there. My direct AM totally hated me and basically denied me for the family leave while I was pregnant. And because the pregnancy was a hard one, I missed a few days here and there, resulting in a termination. I got unemployment for it, and later won the appeal against it because of it, but they fired me when I was about 8 1/2 months pregnant. No one would hire me then, so I just took the unemployment til a few months after the baby was born.
But I agree, I would start looking for a new job. Anything just to get you out of there for now. You could look for more serious work later when you aren't so stressed out from Wal-mart.

The 3 Ds of RHU come to mind: Document, document, document. You might find a sympathetic ear somewhere, or it might help you get unemployment. "These are all the instances of them harassing me. That is why I was fired/why I quit."
In the meantime, polish that resume and send it out. Transfer to another store. Anything but staying at that shithole.

Definetly follow the the 3D's of RHU, and kick it up the ladder, all the way to corporate if you have to. It may not do anything, but on the other hand, it may come back down the ladder and get someone (or several someone's) fired (or in seriously deep shit). Frankly, I don't know how you kept yourself under control. If it were me, I probably would have been fired for smacking (or maybe punching) a few people in the mouth. I understand wanting to keep your job, but there is only so far someone can be pushed before they start pushing back, and you never know who you're pushing and what they can do when you've pushed them too far.
The point is, 3D, and GTFO there. And once you do, make sure you leave them with a view of your pet bird, Flip.

Yes, and go someplace where they view honest workers as important, and don't value those who kiss rears.
I would much rather have someone like you, who just does the job, rather than someone else who is kissing up to management and trying to be someone's "pet". (ugh)
Another thing you might want to do is to look at employment sites like dice.com, and see what kind of jobs are out there. If all you're missing is a particular skill, maybe you can get it on your time off while you're documenting then GTFOing?
I hope you get a much better job; Walmart isn't good enough for you.

Along with Shannah's advice: Try snagajob.com careerbuilder.com indeed.com and monster.com. Thanks btw Shannah! I had never heard of Dice, I'll pass it along now!

Out of curiosity, what was the point of mentioning that you are white and she isn't? It really doesn't seem to make any difference to the story at all.

Definitely document and consider talking to an attorney regarding a hostile work environment suit. It may or may not be worth pursuing but it could help you out while finding a new job.
