When Sayli and Jon Gibbs got married on Sept. 1 at Living History Farms in Urbandale, Iowa, in front of close friends and family, they expected that it would be a romantic day they would never forget. What they did not expect was that the barn they chose would also be the site of a last-minute rally for President Barack Obama's re-election campaign.
The couple was told that the president's event, which started in the morning, may run past schedule, and that the parking lot of the venue would be closed to cars. So Sayli had to walk across the parking lot carrying her wedding gown. Luckily for the couple, the president left on time, and he also left behind a special gift: a silver tray and a mint julep cup, both with the presidential seal, and a handwritten note that read, "Congratulations on the wedding. Michelle and I wish you a great life together. Barack Obama."
Neither Sayli nor Jon is a registered Democrat; nonetheless, they were still delighted to receive the gift. Jon Gibbs said, "Love him or hate him, it's a gift from the president." Photographer Loren Paul snapped a picture of the gift, and a friend posted it on Reddit, where it made the front page and received hundreds of comments.
One commenter questioned how the president had gifts like that on hand, writing, "I wonder if the President has a box of emergency presents, just for times like these." It's not clear if the president carries around a stash of gifts, but one thing's for sure: Sayli and Jon Gibbs will have an incredible wedding story to share for a lifetime.

You know, everybody bitches about how corrupt our government is and how they no longer look out for or even remember that they WORK FOR the people of this country. I see this as a ray of light, showing hope for citizens and retail slaves alike.
Obama heard that his rally might disrupt a single woman's very special day and he stepped up to make amends as well as offer something special. Even better, he took the time to hand-write a note to the couple with warm wishes, rather than have a secretary type up a form letter with a stamped signature. That, to me, shows that Obama is deserving of a second look. Love him or hate him, you have to salute him for remembering that people have lives to live and his big, flashy efforts to stay as President do disrupt others.
Some people may not realize it, but the President's seat is the biggest retail slave job in the world: requiring skills in office politics, diplomacy, management skills, and even actually requires serious protection from Crusties of ALL sorts and often of the worst kind!
May all your customers be nice,

Wow. You can argue whether or not Obama is a good President [I'd prefer that we don't do that here, though], but what you can't argue is that he is an awesome human being.

Thats pretty cool, and in regards to how he had them, I imagine they would have been brought in for the Campaign and set those aside.

Every president has access to many different types of items that can be "gifted" for almost any occasion. All any president has to do is ask an aide for some gifts for a particular occasion and they provide a list.
That being said, the greatest gift I see in that picture is the hand written note. He didn't just pick out some items from a list or whatever was on hand; he sat down, took out a pen and some paper and wrote a nice letter. That says everything.

I think Obama has had the bad fortune to become president during a really bad time, and since he's black, he's truly under restrictions that no white president would have to deal with now. He's far better than some (Bush comes to mind), and has done quite a bit for the country within his power. I feel giving him another 4 years will turn out to be a good decision. As it is, I seriously doubt that any other current candidate would have provided such a personal touch if THEY had been caught in this particular situation. I could be wrong, of course, especially since it's now been publicized...

This story reminds me of another story about Obama making things right after messing someone up. Back in 2006 he made a joke about a reporter looking really young, which messed up the reporter's chances with his date. The reporter wrote something about it, and Obama called "to publicly apologize for messing up your game." It's a funny story from what now seems like a long-ago time:

Our President is a class act. I want my President to be smarter than I am and, as hard as it is for me to admit, President Obama meets that criterion. That he's doing the best job he can under the circumstances and that he exhibits grace and thoughtfulness while doing so indicates what a good choice we made.

Obama just seems like a genuinely nice, down to earth, everyday guy. I think we need him for another 4 years!

That was a very classy thing to do. I just can not see Romeny doing something like that.

Obama is a classy dude. A+
I'm not surprised they would keep things around to give as gifts. That's probably a matter of course. You generally have to give gifts to heads of state all the time anyway - that's been going on since the dawn of time. The real gem here is that he realized something he did may adversely affect someone else, and decided to try to make it up to them, whether or not they are supporters of his - and he did it in a personable way. That's damn classy right there.

I don't follow politics or anything, but I have actually met Obama. Was before he was president, back when he was running for Senator. He did some speech at the local community college the day I was doing my ACTs. Both let out at the same time and he greeted us. He's really nice. He said he hoped we all did well.

He's also apparently a huge nerd.

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree here with the warm fuzzy BS I'm seeing and hearing. I'm sorry but throwing a few shiny baubles at someone because you did something rude does not ameliorate the initial rude act. Nor does it change how terrible and corrupt our government is. So they absolutely needed that place for a last minute convention as opposed to finding another place or rescheduling the meeting because it was already booked? All this says to me is that they clearly thought they were more important than anyone else just because their position. Which is not true in any respect. For the record I'm not on any parties side since they all accept bribes to write laws, wait I mean lobbyists give them money to write laws.
