Becky

I take it the person who made this thought it was clever and not a cliche?

Nick

Nice to see how tolerant people can be.

RoxyRocketeer

Doesn't belong on this site at all...

LaserSpawn

i see i am not the only one who found the distasteful and unfunny.

shoehaven

because that's not incredibly offensive.
joke fail.

Shlalg

I like how offended people are over this.
"Oh, be tolerant!"

Fuck that. In the worst places these damn drapes are enforced, if a woman is caught in the street without one, or showing "too much skin", she's beaten and raped in the streets. If you think this doesn't happen, do some more research, if you can read this, you can google.

I'm not being tolerant of rampant sexism. In many places, woman don't CHOOSE the wear these, they HAVE to.

So yes. This is really fucking funny because it's so sad in real life. And if you don't understand how terrible these burkas are for woman, you're rather idiotic. There IS such a thing as being TOO tolerant.

Nocturnesthesia

Oh fuck you guys, it's funny.

derrr

I don't know. I look at it as a comparison of cultures. Both are misogynistic in their own right.

Nick

Shlalg, if something is made is bad taste, I will say so. Now if I am offended by something, I will let you know.

I would say the same thing to a "joke" about American women being in the kitchen, barefoot, and making a man sandwiches.

shoehaven

Wow.

"So yes. This is really fucking funny because it's so sad in real life. And if you don't understand how terrible these burkas are for woman, you're rather idiotic. There IS such a thing as being TOO tolerant."

Seriously? You think it's "really fucking funny" because it's so sad in real life? Nobody denies that in SOME places women are forced to wear these. But to find it funny when you admit that "well if they didn't wear them they'd be raped and killed" and oh haha it's just so damn funny because it's sad is even more offensive I'd say.

Ekane

This is dumb and not funny. Also, off topic. I get enough of this kind of crap on facebook.

bellflowermoonfish

I'm sorry, I do find the humor in it but then again I'm a bad person. And it's on here because it's a funny SALES AD (y'know, Sales...Retail...) so everyone please learn how to click the link to the next page and calm down.

I don't even want my online alias associated with this horrible image

So....lemme get this straight, you think that people who don't find this funny are tolerant of rapists, of forced cultural standards? On the contrary, it's because we DON'T tolerate the extreme manifestations of these requirements that we find it sickening.

Some women wear a burka by choice, some don't.

The ones who are forced to against their will, how is that funny, how do you find torture funny?

Evidently you've never known ANYONE who has been raped or tortured. If you find it funny, you have no idea what it is like. If you mistake laughing at a reference to torture as an expression of compassion, you are not even human.

Lets put a picture of a gas chamber up with a picture of a human trussed up like a thanksgiving turkey and claim we're expressing compassion for the holocaust victims while we're at it. Same difference.

bellflowermoonfish

I hope that wasn't aimed at me, because you're sorely mistaken about the "never known ANYONE who has been raped or tortured".

Skittles

Wow that escalated quickly.

Joe

Safe to say that if you can't see the humour in this then you are an uptight moron.
