I have 2 words for this job...
IT SUCKS!!!
There's a guy who gets no type of respect. He goes back and fourth all day hauling ass pushing carts in cold, hot, rainy, snowy weather. His store Managers don't care... they want HIS ASS TO PUSH CARTS LIKE A GOOD SLAVE!
Kunta Kinte Style as matter of fact.
He also has to clean disgusting bathrooms. Unclogging toilets filled with shit. (Someone even took a shit on the floor...GUESS who had to clean it UP? ... I'll leave that to your imagination.)
He cleans up wet spills around, the store, mops up vomit on more than one occasion, empties garbage cans and cleans the employee break room (because most of his co worker are too LAZY to clean up after themselves... sad for a bunch of adults).
At this point, he has lost hope in humanity. Would you want a Job like this? Who the hell is this poor bastard? Well that poor 19 year old bastard is ME.
I HATE BEING A CART PUSHER!!! This is an absolutely horrible job.
I have to:
- Clean out the trash that trifling customers leave in carts (Dirty Diapers etc).
- Flip carts, back on their wheels that customers just throw down.
- Watch out for jack ass road raged customers in the, parking lot when I'm moving 6+ carts
- Move back and forth for 6-8 hours straight pushing carts into the store.
- Organize carts that customers sloppily throw into the cart bin in the parking lot.
Customers are rude, they are just disgusting, lazy, and inconsiderate. Throwing trash on the ground, and in the carts when there ARE TRASH CANS AROUND THEM! What is wrong with people?
I do meet a few good customers, but most are just crappy.
I HATE this job. I am too smart for this shit. Fellow and former cart pushers feel my PAIN. At the end of my shift I'm sore and I feel HUMILIATED.
If you're someone or know someone who is thinking about pushing carts or being a Porter (Janitor) like what I do on my job...TELL them not don't do it and to RUN THE FUCK AWAY from this job!
--Rell

When I worked at tram-K, the ASM said that the people who he admired and respected the most for their hard work and tenacity was the cart pushers, cause he understood how much the job sucked. I know it didn't do much to make the job any easier, but it was a good thing that he valued them for what they did.

yet you are told you are the "backbone" of the company and without you there would be nothing, well if you are so damned important why do you get paid minimum wage only get 15 hrs a week?
as a former cart pusher myself (aka "courtesy clerk") i feel your pain my brother. I always make sure to put my cart back, clean, and if i see any loose out in the parking lot i will put them in their corral to make your life jsut a little less unbearable.

Sadly, I noticed a lot of stores shove the mentally disabled into that job, possibly because they do not protest. While I have doubts whether it was on purpose, I once had an odd job interview, as I had applied for a general store associate.
Well, I was dumb/naive. I let loose that I have autism (I'm extremely high functioning). After the first interview, there is a second one with another person. I noticed the questions being oddly, wildly different. I asked about the questions, and the interviewer said, "You applied for Cart Corral, right?"
Needless to say, I got an email saying there were "No positions available".

Yeah I've never understood why people leave garbage in the carts. I used to do that job but the store I worked at would split the duties between the Courtesy Clerks so it was never more than an hour at a time. I can't imagine how that would be for an entire shift.

Two of the most difficult and undervalued positions at Hell-Mart were the Unloader and Cart-Pusher. Extreme climates, long hours, hard labor, fanciful deadlines, and paid just barely more than minimum wage.
And when you did get done, you'd be expected to help the overnight stockers. Doing the job other people got paid more to do, as well as an overnight differential.
I feel your pain, but beware, there are deeper levels of Retail Hell before you.

As the mother of a former cart pusher, I really feel sorry for how they treat workers. She weighs 98lbs dripping wet, and was fortunate enough to get an inside position after she started suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. Thank heavens for a union.
