I had started a job at the beginning of this month working at the holiday set at my mall. Nothing over the top, it’d last a month and that was it. I didn’t mind, I had done one previous and made a good chunk of change from it.
Anyways, I started this set with a new group of people, including a manager. She seemed nice at first, much more open and talkative than my previous manager from another set. I worked with her family and friends, I was the only one that wasn’t part of her ‘original crew’ that she trusted to work there. Yay me!
This is where it takes a turn; I had worked two days (one of them was one I had been called in 30 minutes before the shift to cover for her son) and found out on my third day from a phone call from manager that the set was shut down! She told me that she had issues with the top guys, and they had told her to leave the set and go to another. She was going to take her crew with her, but not me. She was going to leave me there. Now those that have seen the sets around their malls know one person can’t do everything. So they shut the set down.
My manager told me that she would pass on my information and I would get a call, though it wouldn’t happen before my next shift. Two days pass, I’m due to work and I have no idea if I go in or not. I didn’t go since I had caught a cold. Off subject, but if you’re sick and working with people that aren’t, DO NOT touch them! This is how I got sick.
A week passes, and I still had no phone call. I e-mailed corporate but got no response yet. I asked the mall services themselves and found out the set was re-opened with a whole new working crew. I was never contacted.
This week, my dad just happened to be going to the mall, so he went and found out what was up since I was still badly sick. Apparently, the new manager had no idea that I had even worked there. They took down my information, and that was that. Again, two days pass, still nothing.
Now here I am at the last week of what should have been a month’s worth of work with no job, no explanation, nothing. I still have their stupid uniform shirt sitting in my closet, and I’m still without my paycheck for the two days I did work.
So much for holidays being a happy time!
