My friend basically became a sales rep for a cleansing product. Looking to turn to a healthy life style I started considering it. I saw her post it on facebook, and there was a red flag that popped up when her posts started sounding like cheesy sales lines. You know the ones you get in your spam folder every once in a while or the youtube comments that say: Wow! This really works! I just got an Ipad for 80.00! blahblahblah...
So I finally asked her to get some info on it, and we met up. About halfway through I realized I couldn't pay for it. The product had to be bought as a package and cost $10.00 a day ($300 a month) but trying to be nice cause she's my friend I sat there and listened. At the end I told her that I want to do some research, and if it's something I can afford/be interested in I'll let her know. She told me that if money was a problem I could recruit others and get them involved as well.
I go home, and the next day she's on my case, asking if I've made a decision. Well I scoured the internet and found out this product is one of those scam products. My interest was completely gone so I told her I can't afford it but thank you for letting me know about it.
The next week or so she kept pushing it and pushing it calling me phone leaving voicemails and saying I can recruit people to help with payments. It got to the point where I finally snapped at her and said:
"[Name] I only have part time work I'm $4,600 in debt and need to spend a small fortune on fixing my teeth. I cannot afford this."
She backed off again, and I thought that was the end of it. That is until just now when she messaged me AGAIN and said:
"Hey Canadia! I'm having like a group meeting for people to recruit others to help fund their products. Let me know if you want to join us!"
I have never blocked someone so fast in my life. Should I have been more clear sooner? At the same time I wanted to let her down gently but we hadn't spoken in a few years prior to this.
