I'm of two minds:
1) If he had a better opportunity, or the job was crap, then good for him!
2) As amusing as this is, it is highly unprofessional and discourteous to his peers, especially if he was on the schedule for the day. Two weeks notice, always; be the bigger person if the employer is crap.
