I just made a quick stop at a nearby 99 cent store, and they have this sign posted in the toy aisle, and one just like it on the front doors of the store. First time I’ve seen this posted in any retail store, and I really hope it’s enforced! --Nobody

I remember these signs being everywhere as a kid, but they applied to adults as well. You break it, you pay for it. But I also remember "No running indoors anywhere, ever, unless there's a fire." And "If it doesn't belong to you, don't touch it." And "It's rude to demand someone buy you a thing you want." Well, it was rude to "want" anything.
My parents (and their parents) lived through the Depression in the 30's, and WW2 in the UK. So for us kids, the answer always was: "You have more than 2 changes of clothes, shoes that fit, a roof over your head, and food on the table."
