It's the day after Black Friday (company calls it Super Saturday): kids are still on Thanksgiving break & it's the first big Holiday shopping weekend. I'm at the back of the store, cleaning up the clearance & my sales associate quietly tells me BAMF spotted a potential shoplifter at the front of the store. BAMF constantly watched the NAT (14 year old girl, looked like trouble in the 1st place & came in with her group of friends), stops her after she leaves the store, then asks her to come back in. NAT denies everything until BAMF AND the sales associate tell her they SAW what she took & where she concealed it (big part of our policy, PLUS leaving the lease line without paying) & NAT finally emptied her pocket.
Here's the punchline: the items the NAT stole were a boy band bracelet and a BEST FRIEND NECKLACE THAT SAYS "PARTNERS IN CRIME"!!!!! (true definition of irony.)
The follow-up punchline is: after the cops came to do their thing & NAT's mom came to get her, NAT's mom wanted to see if there was any way we could not prosecute her (she's probably our first Mama Bear... parents do get upset, but they don't make the cops/employees feel like we're making this up). The wonderful BAMF grabbed one of the signs we post in our store that says "We prosecute shoplifters" & shows it to NAT's mom, cops give her the spiel about "what's done is done/we HAVE to write the report, no matter what happened" & they leave. One of the cops and I go on a rant about how it's ridiculous that we BOTH get the blame & the cop said, "NAT's mom works at [grocery store]! Let's see what happens if WE come in, try to steal something, then ask to not be prosecuted..."
I gave BAMF all the praise in the world and even posted something in the back room that has Justin Bieber's pic on it (from a magazine) & says in a talking bubble: "Watch out, shoplifters! BAMF is a certified, bad ass mo fo & she WILL catch you!" with more praise for catching shoplifters multiple times a month AND catching NAT on Super Saturday. She & the sales associate loved it.
