A couple weeks ago I had a woman come to reg with a bag of returns. Now, our policy is- no gift receipt/receipt, no return. Nothing. No store credit. NOTHING. Corporate has been breathing down our necks about it, and basically threatened our jobs over it.
So, she came in, and I processed the first return. She didn't have a receipt for the second one, and I told her the policy and she said: "Well, I don't want it. Then just throw it away."
JUST THROW IT AWAY?!!?!? A PERFECTLY GOOD BOOK, and because she can't get her way, she wants me to toss it in the trash??? Later, I gave it to my manager to put in our system and put back on the shelf.
My other thought? She probably stole it from us anyway.
We had a customer last night who decided to inform us all that the reason businesses like ours (I work at a bookstore) lose business is because we refuse to take returns with no receipts.
Actually, no, buddy, that ain't so. We lost MORE money when we were accepting no receipt returns because we literally had another bookstore two seconds down the road. If the other bookstore refused to do a return, they came to us.
Ugh, it was horrible.
