I said I'd have more for you. So, does anyone else work crazy long hours alone because your state (and your cheap boss) does not give breaks?
Fun fact: the Fair Labor Standards Act states, "although some states require breaks, [this state] and most other states do not - federal law has no break requirement - the only exceptions are found in special regulations relating to highly hazardous occupations such as high-altitude steel erection workers or nuclear plant workers - most companies do allow some sort of breaks, however, in their policies."
In other words, retail workers, you can go suck it. My hours this week: Mon I worked for a total of 12:36:00 hours; Tues I worked 11:54:00; Wed was 12:18:36; and today I clocked in at 9:53 and after counting out I'll probably be done around 9:30pm. Completely legal.
I closed the store for ten minutes (bucking mall protocol) so I could use the restroom and get food and sure enough, as I return from the food court the custys are circling like buzzards, just waiting for me. I open back up and sit down and take one bite of my food when suddenly the store is swarming. It took me an hour to eat my food because for every bite I got to take, I had someone come up needing something from me.
Supposedly I'm also supposed to be restocking the floor and doing a pull of backstock for our other store. While I'm here by myself. It may not sound like much to big box stores, but since this morning I've done nearly $600 in top sales (51 individual items purchased) and two returns between 10am and 5pm. And I fixed a broken PSP. And I counted out this morning since the girl who worked yesterday didn't. And yesterday they barely broke $500 for the whole 11 hour day. Ugh.
Also, the overtime I'm getting might be considered a living wage. Minimum wage is just over $7 and the managers get $10/hr (and I'm not a manager). So I get to work stupid hours for crap pay with no breaks. I need it to be tomorrow now.
