Greetings from beyond Lavender Town; it's Ashy-Boy!~ I recently got an email saying that I hadn't written in a while and if I was dead yet. I'm not, but I'm getting there.
I take back a lot of what I said in the past about my company. It's literally running me into the ground and there's not much more I can take. I suppose you could say the honey-moon with Hairy Dickson and I has been over for a few months now.
I was promoted to Full Time Receptionist at the beginning of fall this past year, and since then it's just gotten increasingly worse. Management has turned to shit, company moral is low, nothing is getting done the way it should. More often than not I go home exhausted, frustrated, and fed up. I shouldn't really be feeling so drained from an 8 hour shift at a desk job.
Admin staff keeps lumping things onto my plate that backs up my actual tasks, and as a result I'm very far behind. Customers are becoming more irate every day. We got a call from the Better Business Bureau a few days ago, too, so you know the shit's falling heavy and fast. We had customers rallying together to get the dealership closed on Easter after the admin staff decided to open us that day maybe a week or two in advance, after telling us months in advance that we'd be closed. No raises, barely any new staff being hired on to help with the influx of customers and their problems, no fixes to the leaky fucking roof, nothing.
Our VP of Administration (VPA) is the worst person alive. She was moved to our location from another location of ours an hour south because she and the service manager were having sexual relations on company property. They made him resign, but she got to stay. Hmmm... I wonder why...
Now that she's here, it's been a nightmare. She's sarcastic, mean, and does nothing but talk on her cell phone and take infinite smoke breaks. I don't even know what she does aside from acting like a raging bitch queen. When she's around, 99% of the time it is impossible to do your job.
I was training a new Part Time Receptionist (calling her A1, because we have a few girls with her name working with us) and on her second day of actually answering calls, she got swamped. I was running out behind the doors to pick up a lobby phone and catch calls she couldn't get, as well as trying to help poor A1 direct her calls correctly. On top of that, there were not one, not two, but three meetings going on that required conference calls, which she had no idea how to do. I darted in and switched phones, taking on the majority of the calls so she could take the back-up role. In the middle of all this, VPA decides to start talking at me and clicking her fingers like I'm a french poodle.
VPA: Ashy-Boy, who's calling in? I need to know who's calling in.
Ashy-Boy: I can't talk right now, I've got five calls.
VPA: Tell me who's calling in.
Ashy-Boy: I'll tell you when I'm done, VPA, I have customers and your meeting partners on the lines.
She continued to try and talk at me while I was answering calls, and then stormed off. My boss later berated me for not answering VPA's questions and that I shouldn't have been answering calls at all since it was a day A1 was supposed to be taking them. I promptly told her that A1 HAD been answering, got overloaded, so I jumped in because A1 was floundering. It was her second fucking day! I wasn't going to let her sink. I also told my boss that VPA should also mind her own business, and that in no way was how she treated me right.
This is a constant thing. If it isn't VPA, it's one of her little clique in the admin group ordering me to do things I wasn't hired to do. They push aside my normal tasks for shit they need to be doing on their own. The girl they have in Customer Service not only shoved her entire customer letter system onto me (with THREE MONTHS OF BACKED UP WORK SHE NEVER DID), but now she's picking and choosing which customer issues to handle. I don't mean that she's not responding to legal issue calls, I mean she barely responds to BASIC customer complaints. So she's not doing her job at all. NO ONE in that little section of the admin group answers calls they should be answering, nor getting back to important messages. And who gets hit with angry calls when these catty bitches decide to ignore their jobs? Yours truly.
I'm so tired of being chastised for tasks I wasn't supposed to be doing, or having to be nitpicked for small things while everyone else gets away with murder. I'm tired of angry customers who are mad at other people not getting back to them and just need to yell at someone and LUCKY ME I'm the first one on the line when they call. Just shoot me already.
On the plus side, I did move in with friends closer to work, so I'm saving on gas and time in the morning. I'm also due for a four day vacation to the Outer Banks in two weeks to meet with my comic co-writer, which I'm dead excited for.
All in all, I'm okay I suppose. Who doesn't have a shitty job, now-a-days? Who doesn't have bitchy co-workers? We're all on this site for a reason.
I'm going to go and try not to fall asleep at my desk, now. If anything else outstandingly shitty happens, I'll be sure to let you all know.
For now, this is Ashy-Boy the Horribly-Employeed, signing out.
