Hello everyone, Vantalbar here.
I finally managed to get a job at the Popular Canadian Coffee Chain (as some others have named it before) and well...it's better than nothing. The store itself is mostly fine, it's where it is that's kind of a problem. You see, the PCCC branch is in a mall with an abysmal parking situation. In that, the lot is usually full by 11 and the mall opens at 10 most days.
I usually end up parking at the far corner of the mall, which is a rather miserable situation when I'm done my shift (9 times out of 10 at 10 PM) and I have to walk all the way around the outside of the mall. But I finally got an employee parking pass and I'm supposed to park in the lot that's actually really close to the PCCC. It's just a really awkward spot for basically anything else due to the bizarre shape of the mall.
And the store itself...it's always busy, there's always a line so it isn't boring, but oh my god is it exhausting. It doesn't help that the supervisor in charge when I have my shifts is very, very bad at motivating people.
She follows the "if I don't mention it, you're doing fine" school of thought, which means that all anyone hears from her is nitpicking when we do something wrong. And I mean nitpicking. At closing I only sweep half of the back at a time because I need to wait for the baked goods rack to be moved after someone else finishes cleaning it? I get told that apparently I'm supposed to move it around willynilly while it's being cleaned by other people, when they've told me specifically to not move it until it's clean.
Also, switching randomly back and forth between English and Tagalog while giving instructions isn't that useful since I don't actually speak Tagalog. And her English is fine, I don't know why she does it.
I'll continue to tough it out since it's very difficult for me to find jobs, but I hope I get less shifts with that supervisor.
