Presuming that the link between cookies and diabetes is the 'fail' here, it's not one. Sugar doesn't cause diabetes any more than flies cause garbage. Juvenile diabetes is generally type 1, which is genetic.
Selling things people will buy means they get money for the charity. Selling crap people won't buy like rice cakes means they get nothing.

Its not that the cookies cause type 1 diabetes, its that sugar filled cookies are very bad for diabetics. Ostensibly, something with less sugar like pepperoni sticks would be more internally consistent with diabetes. It could also be the grossly cynical 0.03% (three hundredth of one percent) donation to the charity for each dozen cookies. Hard to tell.

It says 'one penny per cookie', and the 3.99 appears to be for a dozen.
The pepperoni thing is what I meant by stuff people would buy. Nobody's going to want knockoff slim jims like that, donations or not.

You be bad at math. 12 cents is 3 percent of 3.99, not .03 percent. Only off by a factor of 100.
Still not great though.
