'Easter' was hijacked from an older celebration, as many 'christian' holidays are. So there probably was an 'Easter' celebration that he shunned.. .

Ummm...given that the term "Easter" with that origin is used in all of two languages (English and German)that's not a very good argument. Most other languages call it either some form of "Passover" or something like "Resurrection Sunday." The holiday itself is based on the Jewish Passover, which is why it has the moving date.
