This happened a couple nights ago. As usual, I work at a grocery store.
We have a large series of storms rolling through the area, and we're located in a part of the country where water falling from the sky is a near-apocalyptic situation. As such, we were extremely busy. I was watching the self checkout, but had to go over to customer service a few times to help with stuff, switch things out, etc. Over the course of about an hour, the same customer had gone to customer service, complained, left, came back, complained, left, rinse and repeat.
Customer service is about 15 minutes from closing and I head over there to help somebody find their missing keys. While I'm looking through the lost and found, the same guy comes back for the fourth time and starts complaining about his receipt again. He's getting really snippy with the CS girl and starts to raise his voice. She's getting noticeably aggitated. I finish with the lost keys person and jump in.
Me: what's up?
Guy: I just want to make you aware.
Me: of what?
Guy: I just want to make you aware. I want to bring it to your attention.
CSG: whispers he keeps telling me we overcharged him. I checked the receipt and everything came up right. The only thing that might've been wrong were the cases of waters. But I already gave him the difference the first time he was here.
Me: to guy ok, make me aware. What's the problem?
Guy: add it up. It's wrong. But I just want to make you aware.
I add everything up and it matches the receipt. I explain it to him multiple times, point everything out item by item.
Guy: I just want to make you aware...
Me: of what? That you didn't read the signs right?
Guy: I didn't get my discount.
Me: If you hadn't gotten your discount, the chips wouldn't have come up free, we wouldn't see your name on the receipt, and we wouldn't see that you saved 4.29 on your order. Everything came up correctly, you only bought one item on sale. Here's your receipt. Have a good night.
He stares at the receipt for a few seconds and you can see it slowly dawn on him everything I had explained to him. He puts his head down and walks out quickly. Customer service girl turns to me,
CSG: Thank you. I explained it to him the last 3 times he came up here. He just seemed to refuse to get that he might've been wrong. I don't know why he kept saying "I just want to make you aware."
