So recently I went to my bank to get some money out of the ATM. I got an error message at the ATM and so I went inside. The manager looked up my account and said that it had been locked by their card services department...ok then.
So they tell me the call the customer service number on the back of my debit card for more information. I do this and after being on hold and getting a run around for nearly an hour on the phone, the representative tells me the department that handles this does not accept calls from customers, and that I will get a letter in the mail. Now I'm getting frustrated.
The next day I go to their "main" office (a different one from the small branch I went to the previous day) to try to get more information. They make a few phone calls and give me the same answer, wait for a letter in the mail, it will have details as well as my account officers name and contact information on it. Frustrating that I cannot get any information on my account and have no access to my money, but anyways I wait for the letter.
A couple of days later I finally get a letter. No explanation, just that they had closed my account. The account officer to contact for questions? Elvis Pelvis. There was also no contact number. Needless to say I have switched banks.
The bank is not some small bank. They have about 170 branches across Tennessee...I guess you could say it was the first one...
I did take the letter into the manager at the main branch and showed her, asked her if this was some kind of joke.
She said it looks like an error and would have her district manager call me. That was two weeks ago and never heard back.
I did get a cashier's check for the remaining balance in the account. The biggest issue was not being able to access my money for a few days, and wondering what was going to happen with my direct deposit paycheck since my account was no longer open. Still don't have a reason why they closed my account.
the letter says they are closing your account 10 days after the date on the letter. The letter was dated June 25, but I didn't receive it in the mail till July 9th.
Also, I have open cases with the FDIC and BBB. Not that I expect anything from it now that I have my money and the account is closed, but at least they are aware.
