A month or two ago I'm working at my retail job in the 12 items or less area (love it there. I hate tills with belts). This middle aged woman comes up, and I start chatting to her.
She's really friendly, kind of overly friendly actually. She asks how I am, if I enjoy my job (I lie and say that I 'love it') and just basically is getting a feel of how much I enjoy life on earth.
After she hands me her money and I'm about to do the whole, "Have a great evening!" that I say over and over again, she looks me dead in the eye, face super serious and says, "The end is near."
It was said in such an ominous tone that it took me a while to actually process what she said.
She then extends her hand as if to shake mine, but sneaks a copy of the Watchtower (a Jehova's Witness (sp?) pamphlet) into my hand, the way a douchebag on tv would slip a $20 to a waiter to get a better table. She then leaves.
I must have had a major "WUT THE FUCK?" look on my face because my other coworker looked at me and asked what was going on.
I told her and she was really pissed off since this sort of shit is NOT allowed at this large retail corporation, let alone basically any store that I know of.
I just ripped the pamphlet up after the lady left.
Does this shit happen to you guys? Also, does it annoy you as much as it annoys me?
At least at home if someone comes to my door trying to get me to listen to some crap about their faith I can ignore the knocks, or on the street I can say, "no thank you," but at work, where I'm being nice so that I can make cash to pay rent and such, I can't really run after a customer and hand it back to them if i'm stuck behind my register.
