At my store we’ve had a lady that cleans out her pantry at home, and when she finds expired or inedible groceries, she couldn’t stand the idea of losing money on her investment. She would take the old, expired groceries (some of which she purchased YEARS ago), and she’d dig around in one of the outdoor garbage cans for receipts that had any of her selected items in it.
She would bring in several receipts and return one item from each one. We have a no-hassle return policy, but we’re only allowed to refund an item onto the original form of payment or a store gift card.
She always raised a fuss when I insisted on processing her returns onto a gift card.
Management finally let me refuse her refunds when she slipped up and returned items that had expiration dates from 2001.
The packaging looked very different from what was currently on the shelves. Thankfully she’s stopped coming in.
