Ann gets a Retail Balls Award with how she dealt with a NAT who verbally and physically assaulted her:
I've been a long time reader, and hope to be a first time poster. I've been in retail for ten years. I used to be a store manager, but recently decided to step down due to the ever thickening stream of bullshit spewing out of the "suits" mouths.
I've had some doozy days in my retail career, but today took the cake of all of them....
It started out as any ordinary day....putting away stock, ringing in customers.....same crap different date.
I always pay attention to everyone that comes in and out....I say hello or nod to every person that walks into the store-unless I have a line out the wazoo...which is not often because I'm like lightening.
I had a small little line and at the end of it was this woman and her 5-7 year old son. When they got to the register she was quiet and pleasant enough. She wanted me to ring in separate orders....ok fine whatever.
So I ring in the first one.....a large box of laundry detergent and some other little things. I flip the detergent onto the bag carousel and accidentally punch a hole in it.
I apologize profusely and told her that I would get her a new box as soon as I finish the second transaction.
When I finished I turned to get it for her and a new customer came up at the same time. I went to tell that one I would be right back and the lady said she would get the detergent. Ok cool I think.
I start to ring in the one at the register, and started to get a good line...now the detergent woman is taking a little long, so I start watching the door.
I see the detergent lady coming around the corner , but it looks like shes trying to hide something and almost sneaks up to the register.
I notice that shes trying to hid an extra large box of detergent....a $6 difference.
Not cool.
So I ask her if she had trouble finding what she had first...she told me they were out.
Being that I have touched every piece of freight we have I know that I have at least 5 cases of the original box of detergent in the back.
So I say....oh maybe you looked in the wrong place let me go look and I'll bring it up here.
She follows me to the back....huffing in irritation....and slugged her attempt to steal the bigger size at an endcap along the way.
We get to the shelf with the detergent in question and surprise the shelf is FULL except for one box missing....the poor punctured box.
I say loudly oh look you must have passed by it, here you go and start to hand her the original product.
She points to the bigger one and tells me that she wants the big one....
I tell her there's a price difference and she says ok, so I start to walk away thinking I'm done for now, and tasting a confrontation on my tongue.
She very loudly says "excuse me I told you I wanted the bigger one".
I reply "yes ma'am we have that along the way where ever it was that you dropped it, there's no reason to pull another one off the shelf".
To which she tells me (rude as hell): "No you made me walk all the way back here (we are under 1,200 ft), I want the bigger one right there, and you are going to get it off the shelf.".....
"No ma'am I'm not, I'll be waiting up front for you,"....I turn my head and body and walk away.
As I do so, I hear her ask the stocker where the manager was. I assume he pointed to me because her response was "She's it? Mo she's a bitch she has too much of an attitude where's someone else?".
At that point I was too far away to hear anything else. I go to the register picking up her replacement detergent along the way. I get to the register and finish up the customer at it and I hear detergent woman telling another key holder that I was rude, had a bad attitude, and on...I shut her out.
Next thing I know I am punched in the back of my head....now I'm thinking that my co-worker made an accident, until I see the look of horror on my now long line of customers faces.
I spin around and wow detergent woman is right behind me.
(My co-worker later tells me as this woman was punching me, she said, you fucked with the wrong bitch).
Hmm.
So I point to the door...tell her she was way out of line, that was completely unnecessary and please leave.
All the customers in line are telling this woman the same thing. I encourage her to walk out the door.
I back her up; continue telling her she needs to leave.
She starts pushing at my arms, cussing me. I keep repeating that her behavior was unnecessary and that she needed to leave.
She was still pushing me, gave me a fairly good shove at the door to which I took two fingers put them against her chest (first time I've touched her) and told her to get the hell in her car and leave.
She totally grabbed my fingers and told me I was a bitch and that I had better watch myself cause she's going to be waiting when I get off to beat my ass.
At this same time she is also threatening the customers that are all asking her loudly to leave, my co-workers, and myself.
I had a customer call 911, another follow the car to get a plate, another calling the local PD (small town), and the rest trying to calm me......I was pissed.
***and that's that.
I would have done something, but in all honesty the kid being with her, and the fact that I was in front of so many customers-I just couldn't stoop to that level.
