Not exactly an engineering fail. It's 644 years old. How many modern buildings would even be recognizable that far in the future? (Although it did take 200 years to build...)

The problem was that someone didn't realize the ground couldn't take the weight. If you look closely at the levels, you can see them slanting back and forth as the tower tilted in different directions over the 200 years of construction.

Someone once suggested removing the bells and putting in a clock. After all, it's no good having the inclination if you don't have the time...
