Dumbass Coworkers: Do The Policies. Stop Wasting Time Writing Policies.

My current boss is a moron. I'm really not sure how he made it to a director level. My company typically makes very good hiring decisions.

He asked me to prepare a presentation for the whole company to roll out a newly instituted policy. THREE DAYS later I deliver the presentation to him and he had forgotten about it.

He replied to me (and cc'd his boss because he's that dumb) saying, "I don't know who gave you the authority to write your own policies, but nothing leads me to believe that we would embrace this type of policy anytime in the near future. Please consult with me, prior to wasting any resources on these types of projects."

His boss replied to both of us and said, "Is this some sort of inside joke between you two? Good job Bohica, we will roll this out immediately."

Also, he doesn't use they're, their, and there. In his world there is only one spelling...."there."

Another little gem from the same guy....

I'm on vacation, when he calls me to tell me that I would have to resubmit my PTO form because the format had changed. (I had submitted it months earlier) He asked that I have it by end of business that day. It's 3:00 and I am on the beach with my family.

Carolanne book2I said, "I probably won't be in front of my computer until at least 6:00." (I was checking emails nightly).

He responded "Are you not in the office today?"

Not only was he calling me ABOUT my vacation, but I reminded him the prior week that I would be out, and my out of office reply was on.

When I reminded him of it, he said "Well, I didn't bother reading your PTO request because it wasn't on the proper form."

I have a SIGNED copy of my request from months earlier, AND we have a shared department calendar with all PTO, travel dates, project deadlines, etc.

Maybe he's just in too deep, but it seems like he has no clue what is going on at any given time. I would probably cut him some slack if he didn't try to constantly play this macho alpha male, rule with an iron fist, role.

My only consolation is that I know it's just a matter of time until he hangs himself (figuratively) and things can get back to normal.

Sounds like a prime example of the Peter Principle - when people are promoted to the level of their incompetence.

The way I put it is that it's not just cream that floats to the top... turds can float too.
