College Bookstore Return Hell: "I'm Going To Give You a Bad Review on Facebook"
From K8eCastle, Tales From Retail:
Me: How can I help you?
Customer: I need to return this book.
Me: Ok. Did you drop the class?
Customer: No, but I found it for a better price on Amazon. You charged me $80 to rent it and Amazon is selling it for $10. You all should be ashamed of yourselves.
Me: You can return it, but unfortunately you missed the cutoff for a full refund on rentals that is stated on the rental agreement that you signed so I can only give you an 85% refund.
Customer: That is ridiculous! You're stealing from me! Check Amazon, you should honor that price instead of trying to take advantage of me.
I looked on Amazon and found the listing in question. It was much cheaper than our copy, but it was also being shipped from a third party seller overseas and the estimated delivery time was 3-4 weeks. This is common and usually the books are either counterfeit or missing chapters which is why they're so cheap. I explained this to the customer and he still insisted that I give him a full refund. When I refused he stormed out yelling
I'm going to give you a bad review on Facebook! You are all a bunch of thieves!
He did, and the owner of my store responded to his review explaining exactly what I had said before and invited him to come back and "work something better out." He never showed up.
I really wanted to comment and tell him that next time he should 1. Check Amazon for lower prices before buying from us and 2. Read the rental agreement before accusing me of stealing but unfortunately I couldn't.

I think I'd rather pay the full price, get the book in time for classes, and not have missing chapters or wrong information from a counterfeit book....but then every one knows I'm crazy
