From Ryins77, Tales From Retail:
This was an interaction that happened to me a couple of months ago, but it's still fresh in my mind. For context, I was working at a family owned hardware/lumber store, and it was also my last week on the job. An elderly man came in and I walked up to him to help him. He asked for a specific wood stain, and I took him to where we keep it. Well, I turns out we were out, and he wasn't too happy about that.
E - Me, the worker OM - The old man
E - "Sir, we are currently out, but I can order you a can and it will be in on Thursday."
OM - "Well, can you check the back?"
Being a small store we only keep certain items stocked in the back, but I checked for him anyways. However, we were out like I said already. So, I returned to the aisle.
E - "I'm sorry sir, but there's none in the back as well. But, I still can order it for you."
His face then got bright red.
OM - "I need it today!"
He yelled it. I mean, my boss all the way in the back poked his head out of the office to see what was going on. He went from nice, elderly grandpa like figure to yelling trying to demand something that was impossible for me to do. Remembering it being my final days at the store I did something that I always wanted to do, I had had many similar interactions like this before.
E - "Well I can't get it today, so I can't help you."
After that I just walked away. The old man looked around in a circle and just walked out the door.
