The wood reminds me of something that used to show up in the produce section once a year. A foot long chunk of sugarcane. I have no idea how they thought this was a treat for your kid to gnaw on like they were a large rodent.
It IS a treat, or used to be for my brother and I. Sugarcane juice is raw sugar, and you put more effort into getting it, it tastes better. It's been decades since I had it, but I still occasionally want it, but manage to miss the times it's available every single time...
